Dragon blood!

Lion Learners Bearded dragon William

This is William, one of our handsome bearded dragons. Like most reptiles, William is cold blooded. This means that he cannot directly control his body temperature like we can. When we’re cold we start to shiver to create heat, when we’re too hot we sweat to cool down. Dragons can’t do that, they have to bask in warm spots to get themselves warm and active. It is this reliance on the outside warmth that has caused reptiles to be more plentiful in tropical areas, but uncommon in more temperate climates. That’s why lizards don’t roam the plains of England in large numbers, but warm blooded animals, such as foxes, rabbits and birds do. We keep our dragon in special vivariums to keep them nice and warm all the time.
