Leggy Milldred

Milldred

This leggy lady is Mildred, one of our wonderful giant African millipedes! Millipedes look a bit like centipedes, but they’re actually quite different. Centipedes are venomous carnivores that love gobbling small animals, whereas millipedes are peaceful herbivores and scavengers, munching away on decaying vegetable matter in the leaf litter, keeping the rainforests nice and clean. We have several different millipedes here in the UK that perform the same job in our woodland areas, but they are much, much smaller. Ours are cuter though!

Our millipedes are quite happy to be held and gently stroked as they crawl on your hand whilst we give you plenty of interesting facts about them.
