Nice little Nina

Lion Learners hissing cockroach

This is Nina, one of our gentle giant hissing cockroaches from Madagascar. You can tell Nina is a girl because she has a smooth head. Boy cockroaches have little ‘horns’ they use to head-butt each other to impress female cockroaches. Our Madagascan hissing roaches aren’t like the horrible American or German cockroaches you might find infesting grotty buildings, they’re much more happy in dark, humid places like rotten logs and under rocks. They’re only interested in eating decaying vegetable matter, so they don’t pose a threat to our food either.
