The power to wheak!

Lion Learners Guinea Pigs Molly and Lilly

These two startled looking furballs are Molly and Lilly, two of our lovely guinea pigs! Our guinea pigs regularly purr, growl, chunner and chirp with each other to communicate different things, and they squeak the house down when it’s lunch time. This loud squeaking is known as Wheaking. It is a sound unique to Guinea pigs and his hard to describe without doing an embarrassing impression.

It is believed that this wheaking developed specifically to communicate with humans and let them know that they need feeding, much like a cat’s meow. Guienea pigs have been domesticated by humans for thousands of years, so it’s not surprising they’ve evolved some tricks to catch our attention.
